⚔️ Jack’s Rake Guided Scramble – Pavey Ark Ridge Adventure

One of the Lake District’s Grade-1 classics.
Begin with the steep hike up Stickle Ghyll, catch your first glimpse of the scar-line of Jack’s Rake on Pavey Ark, then scramble upward through exposed, exciting terrain. It’s a route that both thrills and humbles — ideal for those who’ve already tested the ridges and want more.

📊 Key Details & Challenge Overview

  • ⏱ Duration: 3-6 hours

  • ➡ Distance & Elevation: ~6-8 km round trip, ~500-700 m ascent (depending on route / group pace)

  • 👥 Group Size: 2-4 participants

  • 💷 Price: £60 per person

  • 🧗 Skill Level: Must have completed ≥1 Grade 1 scramble or equivalent exposure experience

  • 📍 Location: Pavey Ark, Lake District National Park

🌄 Route & Highlights

  • Ascend via Stickle Ghyll with the towering face of Pavey Ark overhead

  • Tackle Jack’s Rake — a steep, exposed scar up the mountain that offers real ridge walking experience and views like few others

  • Enjoy dramatic vistas of the Langdale Pikes, Windermere (weather permitting), and the high fells

  • The route gives a taste of rock climbing routes seen on slope faces, but without ropes (Grade 1), making it daring yet accessible

❓ FAQs

Is Jack’s Rake dangerous?
There are exposed and steep sections, especially near the top. With proper footwear, a steady pace, and your guide’s leadership, it is safe for those with prior scrambling experience.

What if conditions are wet or windy?
Wet rock increases risk — we’ll monitor weather. If conditions are unsafe, we may postpone, delay start, or choose an alternative route.

No prior scrambling experience — can I join?
You should be confident in exposure and have done at least one Grade 1 scramble. We recommend “Introduction to Scrambling” first if you’ve not done any scrambles.

Where do we meet / is transport included?
Meeting point will be confirmed in booking. Transport to meeting point is not included unless pre-arranged.

Are there private or custom group bookings?
Yes — family / corporate / small private groups are welcome; ask us about custom dates.
